Programs

Littering the Ozarks is a proven and successful program.  We offer free spays to the mothers of unwanted litters.  We will literally take over the preparation and placement of the puppies and spay the mom so she can stay in her home without the burden and health risks from unwanted pregnancies.  Statistics show that spaying saves more lives than any other single weapon against unwanted pet populations.  At OHR, its a mainstay on top our priority list.

OHR Adoption Catalyst Team  was born of absolute necessity.  Nationally, some breed types are ever present in some places and not in others.  Based on dog usefulness to the region.  For example, farm country produces many HERDING blends.  Hunting locations create many HUNTING blends.  Sadly, Missouri supports the pet market by saturating the area with ill fated small breeds.  Here in the Ozarks, some of all these factors are true.  In other parts of the country these breeds are not common and therefore very desirable.  Nothing is more powerful for a homeless pup than desirability.  So, we fix them up and arrange for them to join the foster care and adoption programs outside the Ozarks thru trusted friends in rescue, who share our philosophies.

Assisted Dog Program answers the needs of dogs that we do not necessarily shelter.  We do meet their needs and get them on the path to a brighter future. Frequently that involves, medical care, vaccines and transportation arrangements.  While, these dogs would not be for adoption thru Ozark Haven Rescue Foster Program they will receive full services.  These dogs might include dogs that are in the pound, in the community but homeless, being offered temporary sanctuary by landowners, strays, victims of abandonment, abuse or are displaced due to human issues such as domestic violence, death or financial tragedy.
  • The three county area we serve is one that is tremendously rural and dominantly farm land and small towns.  These factors are conducive to large populations
of animals whose suffering is not relieved by government or conservation animal control efforts.  Animals located outside small town city limits are often abused or killed, abandoned, bred biannually creating starvation, disease, and over population problems of incredible proportions as compared to that of other communities with
developed offices to prevent such occurrences.
